mushrooms (1)

I pass these so often now I sometimes forget to even notice them (much like when I lived next to the Cathedral and the prettiest square in town). But coming home from tapas with Jo & Mark the Setas (aka Metropol Parasol) were looking particularly fetching.

By the way, I’m trying out a new font for my watermark. Do we like it? Or does it look too much like a skinny comic sans?

catador

It was an honour to be invited to this week’s 1st Province of Seville Wine Awards as one of the 10 judges. Our task was to blind taste 14 white and 16 red wines from various bodegas in the province and rate them. I was catador (taster) nº 10. Then our points were counted and the awards were given. The winners were…

Best white: El Mirlo Blanco 2015, Bodega Tierra Savia
Best red: Cocolubis 2013, Bodega La Margarita

catador 10

More on the event coming up soon on the Azahar Sevilla blog.

victor (1)

It’s always a treat when my friend Victor @welovemalaga (also my biz partner @welovetapastour) breezes through town – usually during one of his crazy busy 3-week tours that take him through Spain, Portugal and Morocco. This past Sunday we had a couple of hours at lunchtime together to catch up and enjoy a few tapitas.

victor (2)The Crackburger™

I was shocked to discover that Victor had yet to try the world-famous Crackburger™ at La Brunilda. And so off we went to remedy this situation. As luck would have it, although people were waiting for tables when we arrived, the bar had been left wide open (a sure sign that all the clients were foreigners), so we grabbed a couple of bar stools and ordered up.victor (3)

The verdict? Victor absolutely LOVED his first (but not last) Crackburger™. I always love being there for someone’s first special gastronomic experience, be it jamón, pringá, sherry, etc. It’s great seeing the expressions of joy, hearing the delighted MMMMMMs, and knowing that – even in some small way – these people’s lives have been changed forever.

porktastic

Love getting special request Sevilla Tapas Tours. One such request came my way this week, people wanting to experience as many porky delights as possible in one afternoon. As you can see… we did quite well.

help line

Don’t get me wrong… I love helping people. And I love sharing my knowledge about Spain. Which is what led to the labour of love that is Sevilla Tapas and its various offshoots. Which then led to me offering food & wine tours, and later on personalised travel planning. Meanwhile, I keep updating my websites as best I can, as time (and money) allows, so that others can also enjoy and benefit from my experiences.

But what I don’t get are the people who email me saying what a nice website I have and then ask me to recommend specific tapas bars for their short stay in Sevilla, or hotels that would suit their particular requirements, local sights they shouldn’t miss, or possible day trips they should take while they are here, etc…

Guys! All that info is there. It has always been there. It’s there for you to use and – I hope – will be useful. Happy to share and all that. But please don’t ask me to take time out of my busy day to organise your holiday with “my favourite picks” based on your special needs… you can actually find that out yourselves by spending some time on my sites. I did all that research so you wouldn’t have to start from scratch. If you’d like a personalised holiday itinerary, or a fabulous food & wine tour, then I also offer those services. But you do have to pay for that. I’m not complaining, but I always feel a bit mean when I don’t have time to get back to these people.

Have to say though, that it always makes me happy when I get an email from someone recently back from a holiday in Sevilla who tells me what a fabulous resource my sites were for them, how they helped them have a much better time than they would have managed on their own. That makes my day!  🙂
