The Macarena barrio is a hodge-podge of grand old churches, seen-better-days houses and squares, and trendy new shops and restaurants. Yesterday I headed out on a “day trip” to this part of town with my intrepid travelling friends Ang & Ryan (Jets Like Taxis), who are always up for anything new. My main objective was to visit a fabulous new craft centre called Rompemoldes but, as usual, we ended up exploring further afield (in search of tapas, natch).

It was a fab afternoon filled with new sights, great food, beautiful blue skies and lots of walking and talking. Am really going to miss Ang & Ryan when they leave Sevilla next week, heading off on new adventures and challenges. It’s been great having such lovely neighbours these past couple of months.

At the end of every trip to Málaga it always feels like it was never long enough, and on the train ride home after my most recent visit I got to thinking that I needed some sort of work-related ‘excuse’ to get down to my second home on a regular basis. And it looks like that’s about to happen! This week I start working with veoapartment as their Málaga expert, taking care of finding holiday apartments there and setting up the soon-to-be-launched Málaga page. Once up and running I’ll also be handling bookings and updating and have been told I’ll be making regular trips to Málaga. Yay!

What’s extra cool is that I think this is the perfect ‘extra part time job’ I’ve been looking for. I can do a lot of it from home with occasional meetings at the office, and I really like working with the Veo gang (I’ve been their social media manager for just over a year). So while it’s very early days – I still have to find the apartments! – it is definitely an exciting project. Wish me luck!

northern spain

Last year around this time I started dreaming of taking a trip along the northern coast of Spain, but it turned out that I had to stay home that summer and take care of my darling Azar. So I have decided that – providing I get a clean PET scan next month – I am going to start planning this trip in earnest. I’ll fly from Sevilla to Santiago de Compostela and (so far) the plan is to go from there to A Coruña, Olviedo, Santander, Bilbao and San Sebastián. Then I’ll have to backtrack to Bilbao to fly home. I think I’ll be travelling on my own since it’s doubtful that Peter will have any money to travel, but I hope to meet up with friends along the way.

And so, fingers crossed for the next scan! I’ll also post this on the Azahar Sevilla blog (without mentioning dead cats and cancer) to see if I can get any suggestions for places to go, things to do, etc. And of course if you have any suggestions please let me know.
