baby-stepsStarting off again one small step at a time …

My very dear friend Lizzie in Bristol – who has been running the very popular Folk House Café for many years and is now in the process of revamping family run Quartier Vert – recently sent me a list of ideas to research in order to turn a couple of my personal projects into money-making ventures. She thinks that both the Sevilla Tapas blog and azahar natural clothing have potential and so I now have a list of instructions to help me get started … except it turned out I have become so bad at thinking in even a remotely straight line that I also needed to enlist the help of another clear thinker and straight shooter, none other than my “hermana de alma” and international woman of mystery, Pipocas. We got together on Saturday afternoon for a lunch and brainstorming session here at casa az and here is how it went …

new-studio

This is what I did yesterday (with Nog’s help).

All the while I haven’t been able to work (since last May) I’ve been thinking about what I was going to do once I was able to get back to work again.  Which was something I thought wouldn’t come to pass for a few more months because of being on post-op chemo, but suddenly it’s now! And although I’m still not totally sure about what’s going to happen, this hasn’t stopped me from taking immediate action. And the first point of business was to create an “easy-to-work-in-multi-concept space” … as in, I have no idea what the fuck I’m going to end up doing, but I want to be able to do any or all of it as easily as possible. 😉

The biggest room at casa az is the livingroom. To the left of these tables are the bookshelves and my computer desk, to the right is the sofa, as well as the TV and exercise bike.  This is what it used to look like …

not exactly back to work

Three weeks ago I wrote this post about going back to work.

Unfortunately,  it hasn’t worked out as I thought it would.  The idea had been to do “whenever” classes with a handful of my students for whom learning English is more of a hobby than a necessity.  As in,  we would have classes whenever I was well enough to work. And the first week we tried this it looked like I had enough people interested to be doing at least one class a day.  At least enough to bring in a bit of spending money as well as help me maintain my sanity.  But then . . .

… well, sorta kinda.

When I thought that after the liver resection last week I would just have five more chemo sessions, I was quite looking forward to getting back to work in January.  Of course, now all that has changed to six months of a different chemo treatment starting around the end of October and then another stab at doing the liver operation after that.  Which will take me up to next May/June. Shit. . .

Started working on a biz plan today. . .

Well, a couple of them in fact. All tied up with and thanks to a couple of wonderful women I’ve met at different AWC meet ups. Sort of a follow-up (addition to?) my global brainstorming session post from last January.

Anyhow, I’ve found what looks like a good biz plan template online and took the first baby steps this week to start making it more than just something that makes my eyes glaze over by page 3. This means it involves having another real person in the room with me and going through it all together. Bouncing ideas off each other to our mutual benefit. Stuff like that. It’s all looking very positive.

Now I just have to get over feeling so scared.
