Had an appointment with the ear-nose-throat specialist this morning. It was mostly just the usual going over until the doc put a tube with a light on the end up my nose and shoved it around my various facial cavities. Not painful exactly but not particularly comfortable. And so I apparently have a very serious sinusitis that the last two courses of antibiotics did nothing to erradicate. Sounds like this new stuff I was given is a bit more potent…
Plague? Anthrax infection? Sheesh. I got a little freaked out about taking this as the doctor asked me more than once if I was allergic to this particular antibiotic to which my reply was – I don’t know! Then I read about all the possible side-effects – never a good thing to do. I was also given some steroid nose spray to use nightly FOR A MONTH. You should see the possible side-effects for that stuff. Not looking forward to this, but also can’t stand having blocked ears anymore. Sure hope this works.
And how are you guys doing?

This is one of my happy-looking feet enjoying a dip in the Med during one of my summer trips to Málaga. But the truth is, this foot was less than happy – despite happy red toenails – because its owner (ME!) continuously failed to provide proper footcare over the summer months and, just like most years, by the end of June the heels were in shreds and other bits weren’t feeling or looking to great either.
But not this year! Why not? Well, unlike most winters when my not-so-happy summer feet have had time to recover, I ended up developing calluses because of the shape of the insoles of THESE SHOES, which kind of rode up on the sides and rubbed the edges of my feet until they defensively built up a whack of hard and quite painful deposits. And well, too much is enough already. I can’t have both cracked and bleeding heels along with crazily painful calluses.
So I have purchased all kinds of magic creams and exfoliants and have started lavishing attention on my usually neglected tootsies. And I think they are quite enjoying this! But I wonder why it took things getting way out of control (pain-wise) before I took action. Though it is oft said that our feet tend to be ignored until they kick up a fuss. How about you? Do you take care of your feet properly?

Here’s poor Loki as we were getting ready to go to the vet’s. We’re back home now and I’m happy to report that nothing seems dangerously wrong with him. But it all started on Saturday afternoon. I’d come home from shopping and – very strangely! – Loki didn’t race to snarfle down his food when I put out the kitteh lunch. Shortly after that he started vomiting, which he kept up until Sunday evening, poor thing. And even after having not eaten for about 36 hours he still wouldn’t eat, which was when I started to worry.
So yesterday I bought some special food for treating cats that have had gastritis, a nice soft paté… and he wouldn’t touch that either. He did keep down what I managed to force feed him, but as he was still lethargic this morning I decided he should get checked out. Basically Begonia the vet thought the same as me, that Loki had had some sort of stomach upset and was feeling low, but as long as I kept force feeding him and he was keeping it down she said he should be okay in a day or so. She gave him a cocktail injection of something to soothe the stomach and an antibiotic and we were on our way home again. And so of course – after going through the whole VET thing and spending about 40 euros – once back home and after a feeding session Loki starting eating on his own again. Phew!

I think the worst part of this now more-than-week-long crappy ear/sinus infection thing is that I CAN’T SMELL ANYTHING. Which also means I can’t taste anything. But to not have a sense of smell during the very brief orange blossom season here feels cruel beyond belief. I LIVE for this time of year ever since my first springtime in Sevilla. And now I walk around looking at all these pretty delicate blossoms and listening to people comment on how amazing their fragrance is, and I want to weep.
I did get a bit of a preview when I was in Málaga a few weeks ago as the azahar was already well in blossom then, and thought of it as a bonus. But maybe it’s all I’m going to get this year? That is too sad to even consider.
I’d say the azahar here is good for at least another week or so, as long as heavy rains and wind don’t remove them prematurely. What rotten luck! 😦
