T is the new dining concept recently created and opened by ConTenedor. Inside a very discreet entrance is a light spacious room with a round wooden table that seats 16 people. the chef cooks everything in front of them.

I was invited to try the 5 course tasting menu (55€). Wine can either be ordered separately or as a pairing option (18€ for 5 selected wines). I would recommend the pairing, as we were very pleasantly surprised by Ricardo’s choices.

Below you can see the dishes. Will be putting up a more thorough review soon on Sevilla Tapas.

So about umpty years ago Kalé came to stay with me when I was living in my “too big, too expensive” apartment in Barrio Santa Cruz, and had to take in lodgers. This came about because the person I was going to share the apartment with bailed last minute due to health problems, and with deposit paid and contract signed, I ended up stuck with a place I couldn’t afford. At first I tried looking for another flatmate, but then I discovered it worked out better to take in short-term lodgers. I did this for eight years until I moved across the hall to a somewhat smaller place that I could afford on my own.

Anyhoo… Kalé is a historian from the US. I always loved hosting historians who were here to do research at the Archivos de Indias, because, unlike the young studenty types, they were “grown ups” and I never had to worry about having to explain anything. Personal space was respected, rooms were kept clean, etc, etc.

The very unique thing about Kalé is that she has known ALL of my cats, from Lua, Sunny and Azar to Loki and Luna… well she still has to meet Morcilla. But it’s nice being able to talk to someone about my first cat family who actually lived with them. Kalé has been back in Sevilla since she lived with us, and this time she will be here until mid-April. It’ll be very nice having her around.

bags o’ money

money, sevilla, street people

In an attempt to “lighten my load” and also help out a bit, I’ve devised this new way of getting rid of THAT bowl of small change – YOU KNOW THE ONE. I mean, these days if I am going to get 1 or 2 cents back from a purchase I just tell them to keep it, although having a few of these coins helps when you need them – “that’ll be 1.02€ ma’am” –  in order to not get a whack of small change back.

So what I’ve done here is put together a few 2-euro bags of money, with a few 10, 20 and 50 cent coins in each bag, and then topped up with 1, 2 and 5 cent ones. This haul comes to about 15 euros, but you know, it’s just been sitting around for years. So from now on I’ll keep one bag in my purse to hand out to my “usual street guy”, until they are all gone and I can start over again.

Back to the splendid Portuguese Pavilion for this year’s Premios Gurmé. Nice to see some of my friends nominated and awarded, and later to hang out with them at the after party. But next time I won’t wear heels!

orujo

orujo, sevilla

Orujo – also known as aguardiente – is a digestive similar to Italian grappa, distilled from the “leftovers” of the grape pressing process. The sweet version on the left, orujo de hierbas, is infused with herbs. On the right, orujo blanco… pure firewater! I much prefer the white orujo. No matter how intense a meal you’ve had that stuff will cut right through it like nobody’s business. And, as you would expect, a little is all it takes. Do you have a favourite digestive?
