Last night I was invited to a wine tasting and tapas pairing at newly opened Hedonia Tapas & Brasas. The tasting was led by my friend, wine expert, journalist and author Javier Compás. It was a real treat to watch Javier in action, and as the wines were all new to me, I also learned a lot from his casual and informative presentation. The food pairings were all very good, and it was a nice introduction to a new tapas bar. Great to see some of the local foodie gang too. Thanks for a lovely evening Hedonia and Javier!

The Corte Inglés Gourmet Experience and Probando Wines have put together a series of “jueves de cata” wine tastings, and the first one was this beautiful selection from Bodegas Diez Mérito. While all the sherries were outstanding, the VORS Fino Imperial amontillado totally blew me away. It was a very relaxed event, led by Fran León, and was followed by a sampling of sushi from Sushi Spot Corner, which we didn’t stay for. But hoping to catch the next tasting!

As part of Pando Restaurant’s series of “Gastronomic Schools” – educational tastings – the latest was a cheese and wine tasting, hosted by Diego Ruiz de Terry of Pando (Grupo San Eloy) and presented by Antonio Rodriguez Vacas of cheese distributors TGT group.

Peter @SVQconcierge and I were invited, along with several other local “influencers” for a tasting of three delicious, and very different, cheeses: Queso Ibores (goat), Queso Roncal (sheep) and Queso Mahón (cow), paired with white and red wines. I’ve been to several of the Pando events in the past and they are always excellent. Also – bonus! – since I moved the venue is just a few steps from my new home.

So remember when I did that ice cream tasting, which included some unusual flavours like vanilla olive oil, gazpacho topped with balsamic vinegar and chocolate with hot chilis? Well this evening I was invited to a special olive oil tasting at Flores Jamones & Vinos. It was weird and wonderful and featured a gourmet brand of olive-oil based products called Uhmm…!

It was also very tasty!
