One of the best parts of my job – making new friends on a We Love Tapas Tour.

It’s hard to believe that it was four years ago when I bought my first BBQ in Sevilla. A cheap no-frills model found in a suburban mall somewhere out there. Which was still in use when I famously hosted a BBQ in the rain with my friends Ang & Ryan @jetsliketaxis in the spring of 2013. But since then I have barely used it and, upon recent inspection, found the poor thing all rusted out and no longer usable. And if Ang & Ryan weren’t back in town, and if I hadn’t promised them a non-rainy BBQ at some point, I may not have felt inclined to look for another BBQ. Not because I don’t like BBQs (I love burnt flesh!) but because any normal-sized BBQ is just way too big for me, or even me and my housemate Peter. It just always seemed like a lot of effort to set the thing up to cook a couple of burgers, or a few bits of meat or fish.
Then I saw this today! A BBQ bucket. Just as no-frills as my previous one, but small and compact, and presumably perfect for a small BBQ meal for two. Which may turn out to be less than efficient for the sunshiny BBQ promised to Ang & Ryan (no worries, we’ll just make a day of it, and keep replenishing the coals) but I think it will be way more use-friendly for smaller rooftop meals. Also it’s cute. And red. Have you ever used one of these?

Any of you who know me also know that I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. This isn’t to say that I don’t appreciate delicious things that happen to be sweet, it’s just that I don’t go out in search of them. This time these totally delicious green tea KitKats just happened to me thanks to my friends Eduardo and Tomoko. And yes, they are amazing. Thanks guys!

Yeah I know, me sipping sherry – so what else is new? But yesterday was an extra special “sherry event” for me. I finally got to meet Seana Yee (aka @SherrySips) in person, after having “known” her on Twitter & Instagram for awhile. Seana lives in Portland and has been on a sherry odyssey for the past couple of weeks, visiting bodegas in Jerez, Sanlúcar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa MarÃa (sound familiar?).
Yesterday Seana took a day trip to Sevilla to go out on a private Sherry & Tapas Tour with me. What a day! I’ll be writing more about our tapeo, the wines and the bars on the Azahar Sevilla blog, but for now here’s a photo of Seana and Loki (and a glass of manzanilla pasada) taken at casa az during a quick pit stop between tapearing and heading out to a flamenco show. Love when you meet people and it feels like you’ve always known them. Thanks for a great time, Seana – hope to see you again soon! xx
