Last week Cádiz sommelier (and wine bar owner) Jonatan Cantero held the first Tinglao Wine Fest on the rooftop of the Hotel Mercer Plaza in Plaza San Francisco. I went with my friend Gracie and we enjoyed fabulous wines presented by a selection of bodegas and distributors, handpicked by Jonatan, and accompanied by delicious bites including the best bellotas, oysters, cheeses and gildas galore. Great music too! It was a lovely evening out. Already looking forward to the next one. 🍷

la madrugá, sunday song

Today is Palm Sunday, the official start of Semana Santa, and with Kalé in town I was reminded of the old Casa Azahar this weekend. I filmed this in 2011 not knowing that it was going to be my last Easter Holy Week there and that it would be the last time I heard this beautiful music played below my bedroom balconies at 1.00 in the morning as the Santa Cruz procession made its way back home.

La Madrugá by Abel Moreno is my favourite Semana Santa march and although my video is poor quality and a bit dull to watch I recommend listening until the end.

silence is… weird?

For the last week or so my mouse has been sluggish and unresponsive and basically driving me nuts. I thought I could just get a new one but as I got it (ten years ago!) as part of a wireless package deal I was told today that I’d have to get a whole new package. So I saw this Logitech Silent Touch Wireless Combo on sale at El Corte InglĂ©s and half an hour later it was home. I didn’t really pay much attention to the “silent” bit but now that I have it up and running… it really IS silent. No clicky sounds when I type or even when I “click” on the mouse. It just… works. And while that seemed a bit weird at first I gotta admit it feels very smooth, nice keyboard action. So an unexpected new work toy. And I suppose ten years was a good run for the old one, especially with the daily workout it gets.

I have a very old IKEA desk built for an old-style desktop PC so that the screen would be on top of the actual desk, the keyboard on a pull-out shelf underneath and the tower on a lower shelf. And I’ve kept this old thing even after changing to laptops because I CANNOT abide those little chiclet keys. So now I have my laptop sitting up on a decorative box (so it’s at eye level) and the keyboard and mouse on the lower sliding shelf, the perfect height for typing. And the lower tower shelf is a great place to rest my feet. Also saves on neck and wrist fatigue, plus my laptop keyboard never wears out.

KalĂ© has been back in Sevilla this month (she was last here in 2019). This is her final week and I’m going to miss her. KalĂ© was one of the first lodgers I had in my second Casa Azahar, close to 25 years ago (!!!). Hard to believe we’ve known each other so long, and that she has met ALL of my cats, well other than Morcilla, but will try to remedy that before she leaves.  Meanwhile, KalĂ© has been helping me out with Tapas Research and it looks like we will be able to squeeze in one more lunch this weekend.
