getting that christmas feeling…

It’s all been feeling rather Christmassy lately, even mundane stuff like getting my hair cut.  The photo above was taken on my way home from the hairdresser’s yesterday, when I stopped in at Bar Campanario to do some bloggy research for a virtual Christmas dinner being planned over at FFE’s.  At one point Sledpress mentioned a Spanish liqueur called Cuarenta y Tres (43), which I had never tried. So I asked my friend María Paz if she would let me have a wee taste, which led to her offering me & Nog free drinks and tapas … and well, we couldn’t say no.

Last weekend Nog & I had gone to pick out my Christmas prezzie (which is still a secret) and on the way home passed a tapa bar that – gasp! – we had never been to. After checking out the menu we decided to stop in at Pando for a snack, and look at what we got for just 12 euros (including two drinks!)…

tapas-widget I’ve been playing around with my Fotki albums the past couple of days and came across this widget, which I thought might work well on my Sevilla Tapas blog (the old front page pic I was using was this one).  So I went through my files and chose 80 or so of my favourite pics and put them together so that visitors could get a sneak preview of what the various tapas look like. You just click on the pic to get a new tapa.

But you’ll have to go over to Sevilla Tapas to check it out (it won’t work on WordPress.com).  And on azahar-sevilla.com I’ve put a different Fotki widget in the sidebar. Let me know what you think.

Well, maybe one day I’ll get some photos of Cádiz with blue skies … but we were actually quite lucky with the weather, as far as rainy days go.  The first rain shower happened just before lunch, which put the kibosh on our original plan to eat at the same beachside restaurant Nog & I had gone to three years ago. But as a result we happened upon Casa Tino near the market and had a delightful selection of tapas there. When the second rain shower hit we took shelter in an Irish pub, which was all decked out for Halloween, and consumed both Irish coffee and Irish whisky before lurching to the station to catch our train.  But other than that the weather was very pleasant and the company was even better.

We had a great day!

an exquisite snack

I mentioned in yesterday’s post that one of the things I’ve been able to enjoy again are daily walks, and yesterday was no exception. Nog and I headed out late in the morning and I told him he was the ‘tour guide’, so for the next couple of hours he led me through the old Jewish quarter, down near the Alfalfa, and then up to the Ronda, all via little side streets, some of which we’d never been on before.

We ended up near Becerríta and I told Nog I had to get an outside photo of the place because I forgot to do so when Pipocas took me there a few weeks ago. So I tried getting a good shot but there was a guy hanging out in front who seemed to be waiting for someone and not likely to leave very soon, and so we decided to go inside for a cold drink. Well … after having been walking around for the past couple of hours we were actually getting hungry so Nog offered to treat us to a snack. We tried a couple of the special tapas del día on the menu and they were simply divine.

Above is a revuelto – basically scrambled eggs with potatoes and melt-in-your-mouth stewed bull’s tail. And below is grilled sea bass topped with slivered potatoes and served with marinated red peppers, onions and tomatoes. Along with a cold beer and chilled glass of white wine it was a truly exquisite snack. Kind of fed more than our appetites, if you know what I mean.

Boy, I love living in Sevilla!  🙂
