It’s out and about! The Seville Gastronomic Heritage guide to tapas.
You can find the app here… Visita Sevilla
Establishments suggested come from a popular survey conducted by Tourism Board of City of Seville website between April 15 and September 15, 2013, as well as from a selection prepared by a technical commission of experts composed of Julio Fernández, Chef of the Michelin Star restaurant Abantal, Fernando Huidobro, president of the Andalusian Academy of Gastronomy and Tourism, Javier Compás, wine tasting technician, journalist and gastronomic writer. Shawn Hennessey, best gastronomy Twitter 2013 and author of Sevilla Tapas gastronomy tours. And Paco Sánchez, historic bar-restaurant owner in town, former owner of Bar Giralda and Bar Estrella. As a rule, these establishments are limited to the traditional and touristic heart of the city, although some other establishments are also included beyond that area because of uniqueness, quality and tradition.

So okay, I did say that it was fitting to celebrate my 21st anniversary of moving to Sevilla by working (tapas tour!) and I did have a great time with my group, toasting ME at every stop. But I still wanted to do something personal. So as the following day was a “day off” I met my dear friend Edu for lunch and we visited a few places in my old barrio, stopping for wine and snacks along the way. This also seemed fitting, to go back to where it all started. And one of our stops was even where Sevilla Tapas began. It was fabulous afternoon of the old and the new, as we finished off for a last drink across the street from my first home, where Bar Campanario used to be and where La Azotea is now. Perfect.

Last Friday I got to meet Jeffrey Merrihue, the founder of Chowzter, which I joined sometime last year as their Sevilla food expert. At first glance it wasn’t the sort of thing I thought I’d be interested in (though I remember years ago saying the same thing about Twitter!) but decided to give it a go as there wasn’t a lot of work required to set it up. And then I met Jeffrey! He is holidaying in Marbella and came up to Sevilla for the day to do a tapas tour with me, which morphed into one of those crazy tapeo extremos… we even broke a record by visiting 7 tapas bars in 4 hours.
Well today I’m off to do it again today in Málaga with Jeffrey and my good friend Victor @welovemalaga. Stay tuned on my @SevillaTapas Twitter… Jeffrey wants to beat last week’s record. 🙂

It was that kind of day. Got up a wee bit later than usual after an extra-long Sevilla Tapas Tour last night (hey, it was a special birthday tour!). And then I faffed around on the laptop for awhile until it was time to go for my monthly chemo port cleaning. Which I always kind of dread – my monthly reminder that I’m not “out of the woods” yet. I usually treat myself by taking a taxi to the hospital and back, but lately I’ve been finding just getting into a taxi stressful as it usually ends up in some sort of argument after the driver attempts to rip me off. So today I took the bus and, although I HATE taking buses, I felt today like this was my own personal protest against thieving taxi drivers and that made it a bit better. Also, Peter came with me because we had decided to do a bit more research in Los Bermejales, a barrio not too far from the hospital.
Well, great timing *sarcasm*. Although not too far, it turned out that Los Bermejales also wasn’t all that close to the hospital. And it was 42º. But we finally made it to our destination – a typical barrio fish and seafood place – and enjoyed a few tapas. Then on the way to catch the bus home we passed another tapas bar I’d been following on Twitter and poked our heads in the door. And that’s when I saw these wonderful words of wisdom. So we decided to stay and have one more cold drink before heading back into town. All in all, a very pleasant day. How was your Tuesday?
