Going through old pics today, attempting to catch up on Sevilla Tapas updates, and I came across this one. Back in June, Carlos, the owner of Sevilla’s oldest bar – El Rinconcillo – took out this old sign to show us which reads “Spitting on the floor not allowed for hygienic reasons”. They still have the “no singing” sign up, but apparently this one is no longer necessary.

It was a night off from tapas tours, so of course I ended up hanging out in bars. Actually, it was mixing pleasure with business as I had to meet with a couple of bar owners, and then wanted to check out a newly opened place. Meanwhile I managed to get this cool shot at Las Teresas. I had never really noticed that hand-painted plate on the wall and to get closer to it I had to go behind the bar. Then Rafa bought us a round on the house and we chatted for another half hour or so. I love this bar, I love the people who run it, the guys who work there, and I’ve been going there for over 20 years. Just like with most of the bars I’ve ended up working with. It’s an amazing job when you don’t really notice when you’re working or when you’re just there socialising. Love my job.

So many bars, so little time. I managed to visit eight new bars in Málaga. Either brand new, new to me, or a new version of one I knew before. And except for one (spoiled by crap service) they were all delightful. I also visited some of my old favourites, a couple of great breakfast places, and a fab new bar that mostly specialises in vermouth and smiles. I’ll have to go back to that one. Hope to get these places written up soon on Azahar Tapas… Bar Mercado Central N°1, La Luz de Candela, Óleo, Señor Lobo, Barra de Soho, Vinería Cervantes, Añil Croquetería and the new Uvedoble.
