So you may remember my friends Jo & Mark? Yes, more friends that I met thanks to Twitter (@missbishopsgate @inkjocky). They also very kindly let me stay at their London home in May while I was there and they were away. Anyhoo… Jo was in town last weekend and we spent a fab day out in Triana, having lunch and mucho vino. As you can see below she even got into an impromptu bit of flamenco dancing at one of our stops. Which is also the reason she was here – on her way to Jerez to spend a week studying flamenco. At some point we decided it would be fun if I popped over to Jerez for lunch one day while she’s there, which led me to invite Eva (the flamenco connection), which has since morphed into a last minute Jerez Getaway with Eva and me staying over tonight.
Mixing business with pleasure (as always) I also arranged to finally see the famous Andalusian Dancing Horses and Peter will be coming with me to see that – research! We’ll have to leave early to get there in time to see the museum (I’ve been offered a tour) and then the show starts at noon. After that Eva will arrive and we’ll meet up at our hotel, then meet Jo for lunch after her class. I’m a bit nervous because my lunch with Jo on Saturday ended up being almost 9 hours long, and my first lunch with Eva last week was only slightly shorter. Wish me luck! Off to catch the train now…

I’ve been meeting some great people lately! This is Eva. She runs a tour company called I Show U Sevilla and she got in touch awhile ago to invite me to one of her activities. We decided to meet first for “a quick beer”, which turned into an epic lunch ending with rooftop drinks… and we discovered we had a lot in common (other than enjoying epic lunches and rooftop drinks). We have a similar philosophy regarding our work, we’re both creative and hard-working, and we both love people. Nice to have a new friend and also someone to share ideas with. And (once again) all thanks to Twitter, where we first “met”.

Say hola to Amoreena @amyalena and Quentin from Texas. I was out for lunch with my friend Eduardo @EBlancoTravel and these two were sitting a couple of tables over. We ended up chatting and were having such a nice time that we also ended up going out to bar Las Teresas for cava afterwards. I gave Q & A some tips on where to have tapas on their last night in town and they had a great time going back to Teresas for jamón and then over to Bodeguita Romero for – what else? – their famous pringá (and a few other things). Lovely meeting new friends over good food and wine.

Of course Edu and I foolishly went on for more cava afterwards… #deperdidosalrio

Last week while Anna @annalibera was here I also had a long-awaited visit from Naomi @gingergourmand and her husband Andrew @andrewknill. Naomi and I have been Twitter pals for years, so I was very excited when I found out they were coming to Sevilla to celebrate Andrew’s birthday. The night they arrived Anna and I crashed their first meal at Eslava and then we dragged them over to La Pepona because, well, Anna ALWAYS has to go to La Pepona. It’s a beard thing ;). Next day I met up with Naomi & Andrew in the evening for a spontaneous “gourmet tapas tour”, which took us to a few of my fave places. Usually I like to mix things up a bit, but that night we ended up at favourite traditional bars since N & A had already visited a few trendier places. It was lovely.
The cool thing about all the Twitter pals I’ve met over the years is that not only do we have a love of travel, food & wine in common, but usually we’ve been in touch for ages, and know a lot of the same people (either virtually or in person). So when we do finally get to meet up it’s like we’ve known each other for ages. Especially because ALL of us post photos of what we’ve had for lunch. 😛
