birthday, sevilla tapas, tapas tour

Yesterday was Nog’s birthday and, as I had a tapas tour in the evening, I asked him if he would like to join us. My clients were happy to get a “two for one” tour guide offer and Nog got to celebrate his birthday in style. We went to three tapas bars and had some amazing food and wine. And in case you’re wondering, that isn’t a piece of cake set ablaze with 58 candles… 😉

So remember how I moved house and was told – hey no problem – that my internet and tv service would be transferred in less than two weeks? Yeah right. It took almost four weeks, and even after that the “technico” had to come back a couple of times to sort out the television service.

Meanwhile, I have been on the market to upgrade my lovely iPhone to the latest model… which I almost got to do last Christmas except Movistar fucked that one up, as their “offer” closed before there was any stock available in their stores. And so I was happy to find that in my friendly neighbourhood Vodafone shop they took down my name on a waiting list and called me just a few days later to say they had an iPhone4 for me, all I needed to do was stop by and sign the papers to transfer my custom over to Vodafone.

And now comes the icky part…

computers, lacie hd

Meet Scarlett. This tiny 7cm x 11cm external HD has 500 GBs and I was way overdue for a backup. Of course, I have this other LaCie HD that I bought almost three years ago… well, I have it somewhere.

Something very weird has been going on here with things we have unpacked and know we have held in our hands and that are now nowhere to be found. First it was Nog’s hair trimmer. He’d used it to trim his beard but we couldn’t do a haircut because it was low on juice and he couldn’t find the charger. Then he found the charger and – you guessed it – now can’t find the trimmer. Last week I saw the LaCie HD on the living room table. This morning I found the USB cable, but no HD. And yesterday a DVD I’d been meaning to watch is no longer, well, anywhere. It’s crazy.

And so, I was supposed to get together yesterday with the fearless Ana, who helped me move, to help her set up a blog and other social media stuff. But she got in touch to say her laptop had collapsed and she had to take it to computer hospital. And then she said – “thank goodness everything is backed up” – and I felt a chill down my spine. Shadow hasn’t been backed up since … well, I can’t remember. Which sent me on a massive house search for my HD, which then sent me over to FNAC to buy this new gadget. Well, as Mudhooks has pointed out before, it’s prudent to have back-up copies on more than one external HD, and my old one was actually too small. So now that I have this new back-up HD I’m sure my old one will turn up some time today.

In other news, my iPod – which has been missing in action since The Move – has finally been found! In fact, it was in the very place I thought I’d put it (my laptop bag), which I checked about a gazillion times these past three weeks, but then suddenly it was there! Perhaps the same thing will happen with all the other mysteriously missing articles. I suspect Loki…

cancer, home, life, work

A curious day yesterday as things got fixed, some loose ends were tied up, and other projects continued to grow. I realised when I got up and sat down at my desk in the living room just how perfect that set-up is as a work space, especially this time of year. In summer I’m sure I’ll often be bringing my laptop up to the terrace to enjoy working out in the sun and fresh air, at least in the mornings.

Things started well when the Movistar technician came back to fix the stuff he’d installed on Saturday, thus ending the awful saga of trying to get my service reconnected. He’s the same guy who put in my internet connection a couple of weeks ago and remembered me (and my cats) from the old place. Anyhow, at one point I mentioned complaining about Movistar on Twitter and he said – “Oh yes, they know about you!” – and explained how he was told to be careful with me and be extra nice. Ha. And later I got a private twitter message from Movistar asking if everything was okay and saying “if there’s anything else, you know where to find us”. So of course I told them about the iPhone 4 fiasco… still waiting to hear about that one.

Later in the afternoon I had to go and see my oncologist. At first I thought I’d have to go alone, but Nog had some time before his evening class and came with me. And when we were called into her office just 15 minutes after arriving it seemed like there’d be plenty of time to get through the appointment before Nog had to leave, but no…

adsl, imagenio, internet, movistar

I’m going crazy with this.

On the morning of January 25th, the day after signing the contract on my new apartment, I called Movistar to arrange a transfer of service, including landline, internet and television (Imagenio). I know I did this because I have proof – the reference number they gave me (11193S). Since then it’s been a bloody nightmare and I’ve lost not only valuable work time but also HOURS of my life calling and calling these people to get them to keep their word. Which was… that at most the transfer would take two weeks because it included the television service. We are now going on week four and, while they did finally come a week ago today to install the internet, I am still without any television service. And I am furious at the way I’ve been treated.

So I got on Twitter and the people handling the Movistar tweets there have assured me that my order has been prioritised – the order I was told this morning didn’t exist (!!!) – and that my service should be installed today. Well, it’s going on 3.00pm and I still haven’t heard from anybody.

Meanwhile, my ISP has weirdly blocked one website. I cannot access it from either computer at home, either using the router or my iPhone as a modem. But everyone else can access it, and I had no problem when I tried the computers at the gym the other day. So clearly an ISP problem. But after more than half an hour on the phone today talking to this and that technician I was put on hold yet again… and then my call was disconnected!! And nobody has called me back.

I am borderline hysterical thinking about this. The screw up with the transfer of my phone line, internet and tv service is compounded by the shitty way I am being treated every time I call them. And now for two weeks I haven’t been able to access a website that I am supposed to be working on. There is a glimmer of hope that the twitter connection is going to come through, but time is already running out on today…
