louise-jason-1When Jason @CortadoIngles was in town last month we had a lovely afternoon out tapearing and he promised to return soon with his wife Louise @ingamell. Which happened this weekend! They are here on a Sevilla getaway, celebrating their 10th anniversary, and they very generously let me tag along and drag them around town on a VERY RAINY afternoon, to sample some of my fave tapas at a few bars that I love. louise-jason-2It was great to finally meet lovely Louise, a refreshingly no-nonsense chica with a great sense of humour (that Jason is a lucky guy!), and I hope we will have the chance to all meet up again… and again.

anna-jorge-1Remember my fab Galicia Getaway last August, and how the FAB Anna & Jorge (aka @theKilomeaters) not only showed me around town, but had me over to their place for dinner – twice! – and also took me on two day trips, to A Coruña and Lugo?

Well, I finally had a chance to return a little of their hospitality when they came to town this week. Between the various family and work obligations they had, I finally managed to get them all to myself for one evening, and we had a great time. Their only request was that we go to somewhere TRADITIONAL (after a week of gourmet dining) and also somewhere near where they were staying. No problem. I chose Taberna Pasos Largos, a personal favourite for MEAT and simple food done well.

anna-jorge-2After that we took a stroll over to the Alameda for rooftop cocktails at the The Corner House @thecornerhous31 and were able to enjoy our drinks and the views before the rain began…anna-jorge-3

One of the many things I love about going out with Anna & Jorge is that nobody ever eats the food before the photos are taken  ;), and also nobody cares if we are all on our phones most of the time. We’re all together doing what we love, and I find that very refreshing.

anna-jorge-4

By the time we left The Corner House the slight bit of rain we’d experienced had stopped, but the views showed an ominous sky predicting storms before too long.

During the last Galicia Getaway plans were already made for a second one next May, which I was assured was the best time to visit the bodegas in Rías Baixas. But I hope to see A & J at least a couple of times in Sevilla before then. xx

professional-clientsRyan, plotting world domination…

Comes a time during every new We Love Tapas guide’s training period when they do a practice tour with a couple of specially chosen victims “clients”, and me tagging along to “observe and intimidate”.   😉

This time up I called once again upon dynamic duo Ang & Ryan (aka @JetsLikeTaxis) for their services. It was their third time and I have to say they are really getting the hang of it. So much so that next time I might just be able to stay home and wait for their report.

pro-clientsMost uncharacteristically *ahem* the tour ended with a penúltima (or three) at The Office (aka La Azotea Santa Cruz). As you can see, nobody was the slightest bit inebriated. Thanks again, guys!

los bermejales, sevilla, tapas, tapas bars

bermejaleandoLos Bermejales is a suburb about a half-hour’s bus ride from the centre. It’s not a place I go to often and, when I do, it’s usually to visit my friend Pilar (who lives there). But yesterday I decided to go and check out the final day of the first Tapeando por Los Bermejales, a week-long event in which 18 local bars created a special tapa and offered it at a special price (3€ for a tapa & drink).

Peter and I had chosen a few bars from the list, based on the tapa on offer, and were disappointed when we arrived at the first bar on the list and it was closed. Another of the bars wasn’t even there anymore, just a sign saying they had moved, though it didn’t say where. Two other bars had run out of the special tapa, and another two were so grubby we didn’t bother staying. So out of the nine bars we went to, we only ended up trying three tapas. Which were okay, but nothing “special”. In fact, in most cases the regular food looked more appealing. I think if you live in Los Bermejales it’s a fun initiative, with people going to the various bars during the week (though probably best not to go on a busy Sunday afternoon). Let’s see how they do next year.

canabotaCañabota

One of the perks of the biz is when I am invited to previews and openings of new bars and restaurants in Sevilla. I was excited to hear the other day that the long-awaited arrival of Cañabota will be realized this coming Monday (October 17th), and I was very lucky to be one of the guests at their fabulous preview lunch. Much more coming up very soon on Sevilla Tapas.

canabotaPreview tasting menu: “solid cocktail” of Hidalgo fino, Lustau vermouth with trout roe and orange zest; grilled oysters with toasted butter and artemia; onion crisp topped with larded tuna, onion purée and tuna fat; cod liver salad on mushroom slivers, baby spinach and lettuce, fish emulsion and spicy vinegar; squid ink potato parmentier with cuttlefish roe and chipirón; sea bass with confit black trumpet mushrooms and fish emulsion; lemon meringue “pie” on a crispy biscuit.
