It was great catching up with Mary & David from London Walks yesterday. I first met them when they visited Sevilla two years ago, and this time I got to take them out on a proper Sevilla Tapas Tour. Happily they were up for anything, so we were able to squeeze into one of my fave places that I can’t usually go to on my tours, as it’s too small and crowded for most people’s idea of comfort. If I have time I hope to go out on one of their London walking tours when I am there next month.

By happy coincidence this Saturday’s sherry cata at the Consejo Regulador in Jerez happened to be on the same day as a combination birthday-farewell party for our friend Momoko, who has been living in Jerez for the past three years. Now that her book research is done she has to return home to Japan, but we are all hoping she will be back in Jerez – her true home – before long. 
Momoko was taken totally by surprise and spent much of the time at her party – at the fabulous Bodegas Faustina González – with happy tears in her eyes. I’m glad I had a chance to see her before she leaves next week. And as always it was great catching up with Jerez friends, and also meeting some new ones.

At least that was the plan. Today is Peter’s birthday and this is my birthday present to him. It was supposed to be this evening, but then the date got changed to tomorrow. Probably just as well as the birthday boy is still a bit run down and also still on antibiotics (which finish today). So we’re going to pretend that tomorrow is March 2nd instead!

So remember when I serendipitously met Alexis last week? Well, before we parted company we made a plan to get together and try out Ana’s tasting space upstairs at Lama La Uva, along with Ania and Delia. I’d been to a couple of olive oil tastings before, but I felt I learned a lot more at this one. Alexis is a natural teacher, and her passion for all things olive oil is infectious. Even Delia, born and raised in Spain, had no idea about some of the aspects of the whole olive oil biz here. I even learned a few “tasting tricks” that I think will also help me with tasting sherries. A wonderful experience.
Exactly 4 weeks today I’ll be winging my way back to London. Remembering some great times from last summer’s London Getaway. Can’t wait to see everyone (and London) again.
