So this is what led me to discover Cuadros Venecia the other day. My friend Reyes Morales had given me this fabulous print of her bar by local artist Alfredo Rodríguez and I needed to find a frame. Alfredo started his Fachadas de Sevilla & Co as something to keep him occupied during lockdown and now he has over 50 in the collection, which are available as hand signed limited releases. The detail here is amazing, as it is in all of his drawings. So this is now my second of the collection (I bought Casa Eme in 2020 after hearing he had shut for good). Below you can see some close ups of Casa Morales and a pic of the first sketch he made (swiped from Alfredo’s Instagram). I really love these.

Since reopening after lockdown Bodega Soto has been run by the third generation of this macareno family, Manuel Infante Soto, who clearly has a slightly bonkers sense of humour. The bar is much more “cluttered” than previously, with all kinds of curious bric a brac, including this mini depiction of the annual almadraba tuna catch and a creepy killer doll which Manuel says came into his possession after a client said it was too scary for her to keep at home. There’s plenty more to unpack here and so I shall be back to question Manuel about the history of some of his other curios.

I’ve been Twitter pals with Yin @jjassociatesYin & Phil @philjjassociate for YEARS. They live next door in Portugal so they end up coming to Sevilla quite often, but today was the first time we’ve managed to meet up in person. Total kindred spirits in the love of good food and wine department, plus we know a lot of the same bars and bar owners. It’s almost like we’ve been living parallel lives here.

Today we went somewhere they hadn’t been to before, La Barra de Cañabota, with Peter joining us, and we had a great time. Looking forward to future Beer O’clocks with them.

rincon tito (12)Luis, owner Luis Barceló, Jonathan & Carmen

When you stop off somewhere you’ve never been before for a quick beer (because the other bar you were going to was closed) and end up chatting with the bar owner, then stay for lunch, and then make friends, not only with the owner and staff, but also with two couples sitting at other tables, then all of us finishing with orujo chupitos together… so much fun. Delicious too. This is El Rincón del Tito, about a ten minute walk from my house. Founded in 1982. l couldn’t believe I’d never been here before. Present owner Luis Barceló has been running it for the past 15 years. He also couldn’t believe I’d  never been here before (what?? you’ve been to Eme’s and not here??). Anyhow, review going up soon on Sevilla Tapas, and yes, I will be back here soon. Love this place! Also loved the serendipity.

9th anniversary (1)Adam, Thomas, Tiffany & Jack

The other day my Twitter pal Simon @sj_bowden posted a photo of us on a tapas tour saying it was 9 years ago this week that he and his friends were out with me. And then today I had a tour with Jack @centrejack and Thomas who had also been here in 2013 (and were back with friends for more!). It’s so great when stuff like this happens and it reminds me of how many people I first met on a tapas tour who ended up becoming friends (you all know who you are!). It really is a wonderful job. Also, check out quality difference between the iPhone 4 photos and my latest one. Wow.
