Arpy @andalucinda will be so proud. Not only did I buy a pair of sandals this past week… I bought two! I picked up those very sensible Mephistos in Málaga, and today I finally ended my search for the elusive cute red sandal. Seriously, NOBODY is making cute red sandals anymore. I almost got these red Mephistos a couple of years ago – ordered them online but then it turned out they were out of stock. So I’ve basically been without red sandals all this time, if you can imagine. But I’m all stocked up now and looking forward to lots of comfortable walking for the rest of the summer (well, actually until the end of October).

So many bars, so little time. I managed to visit eight new bars in Málaga. Either brand new, new to me, or a new version of one I knew before. And except for one (spoiled by crap service) they were all delightful. I also visited some of my old favourites, a couple of great breakfast places, and a fab new bar that mostly specialises in vermouth and smiles. I’ll have to go back to that one. Hope to get these places written up soon on Azahar Tapas… Bar Mercado Central N°1, La Luz de Candela, Ă“leo, Señor Lobo, Barra de Soho, VinerĂa Cervantes, Añil CroqueterĂa and the new Uvedoble.

This is my home away from home when I’m in Málaga, my meeting place, my office… Los Gatos. It’s amazing. You can get tasty snacks there, lots of different tapas, full meals (they do great stews and other dishes), lovely wines and the best beer on tap in town. But most of all you get genuinely friendly service. And every time I show up after being away I am welcomed like an old friend. Just like I am the next day and the next. It’s a very special place.

It was a very cultural week. I went to three new (well, new for me) museums in Málaga this visit. Top row: Museum of Popular Arts & Traditions, Museum of Glass & Crystal, Interactive Music Museum. Then I re-visited the Contemporary Art Centre and the Carmen Thyssen Gallery. All in two days! I will (hopefully!) be writing more about these places on Azahar Spain soon. But if you are planning a trip to Málaga then check them all out. As well as the Automobile Museum, the Russian Art Museum and – at least from the outside – the shiny new Pompidou.
