seanna-sipsAfter first meeting Seanna Yee (aka @sherrysips) last year when she visited Sevilla, I was thrilled to hear she’d be back in Jerez for an extended visit this month. You may recall that I popped over to Jerez for the day a couple of weeks ago to visit Seanna and friends, and we made plans for her to come back to Sevilla for a day.

And what a day it was, packed full of sherry, great tapas, meeting friends, cuddling cats… we even watched a sherry film El Misterio del Palo Cortado while taking a break here at Casa Az. Just like last time Seanna was a hit with the cats and she even made this short video of marvellous Morcilla at play.

So great to see you again, my dear friend and “sherry sister”. Hasta pronto! xx

lorraineWhen Lorraine (aka @voraciousgirl) was planning a trip to Spain a few months back her friend Rachel (who had been on one of my tapas tours in 2013) convinced her to also spend a couple of days in Sevilla. A food & drink (and cat!) enthusiast, Lorraine and I obviously had a lot to talk about when we met up for a few tapas and a bit of sherry education…

anniversary, friends, sevilla

anniversary lunch… at 8.00 pm to be exact, I arrived in Sevilla after a long hot drive from Salamanca (with two cats in tow) and the rest, as they say, is history. So today, after taking care of the usual morning work stuff, I met up with my friend Jeanine (we’ve been trying to have lunch together SINCE JUNE) to celebrate. As always with Jeanine we both start talking at once and don’t stop until it’s time to go home again. I love this feisty smart lady, and enjoy spending time with her whenever I can. So I am very happy that we got together for my anniversary. Hasta soon! xx

sevilla, sherry, sherry and tapas, tapas tours

shelly-mike-allen-1You know I love my job, mostly because I’ve been telling you for years now how much I love my job… but I even more especially love my job when I am asked to do sherry & tapas tours. Here are some scenes from last night’s fabulous Sherry & Tapas Tour, which ended up with three new sherry converts.

I think what I love most about these tours is that I am usually taking people from almost zero knowledge about sherry to a totally new and unexpected appreciation of these unique wines. I never tire of watching people’s expressions upon trying something new, be it jamón or some unusual seafood item, or sherry.

Unfortunately last night’s enjoyment was marred by a copycat food tour that, over the past year, has invaded all the bars I’ve been working with for years. When we showed up at our final stop for desserts and sweet sherries this group was at a table next to us, being exceptionally loud and obnoxious, and the “guide” not in control of the situation at all. I wouldn’t have said anything but my guests actually complained about them, saying how unpleasant it was having them next to us. My feeling is that – hey – there are over 3000 tapas bars in Sevilla. Can’t these people use a bit of imagination and go somewhere else, rather than just copy everywhere I go?

jason

I first met Jason @cortadoingles a couple of years ago when he was living in Granada. Now Jason and his wife Louise (and their new pup Grace) live in an eensy village in Almería. This weekend Jason had a short “big city escape” to Sevilla and it was great to catch up again, as well as take him on an impromptu lunchtime tapeo, which included some unexpected percebes at Bodeguita Romero. Looking forward to seeing both Jason & Louise in Sevilla again soon.
